We've received multiple reports of errors at checkout for orders which charge sales tax in the EU, we're not sure what exactly is causing the error but we're looking into the issue now and will update this thread with more information or when the problem is resolved.

We've found that the problem was a change with PayPal regarding standard checkout where shipping and/or sales tax was being charged, specific to the following locations:

'BE', 'FR', 'ES', 'DE', 'NL', 'IT', 'AT', 'PL', 'SK', 'BR', 'TR'

Fortunately our development team was able to implement a work around to resolve the problem for now. Since it is likely that PayPal might undo this change in the future we will continue to monitor the situation.

It all depends on the strategies and way of work.If the way of work would be good then the results would be good.Any how it is a useful concept.

Hi E-junkie team...I just had a dutch customer this email me about this -- he encountered this problem today when he was trying to buy some items from our shop. Could you please advise what I should do to fix the problem?

Best wishes,

Lori

Hi,

I'm having the same problem for German and Dutch customers since today. I hope you can find a solution/workaround very soon.

Best regards,

Ellen

Confirming we are hitting the same issue. We are based in EU and a lot of customers are too. This is a severe problem for our sales right now. I hope it will be fixed soon.

To be more precise: the problem happened first last may and started happening again today 9th of august 2012.

Excuse me but this starts being big... We are missing a lot of sales from all EU right now because of this issue. Can we have an ETA for a fix please ?

We just got a followup today to our bug report with PayPal, confirming they have fixed the bug at their end, so now our workaround for the bug was actually causing the error; we have now removed that workaround, so things should be working normally again. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and please do let us know if you continue to encounter any errors of this nature.

Yes, the issue seems to be fixed. Thanks a lot !

Daniel

@E-junkieGuru: Thanks for your reply. The Paypal error seems to be fixed, yes, but now the additional tax amount (19%) is not added to the Paypal checkout amount.

Am I the only one having this issue?

Please help since this error is causing me also a lot of lost sales today.

Best regards, Ellen

@E-junkieGuru: I am confirming what Ellen says above ! VAT is not added !!!

PayPal checkouts will only show tax and shipping amounts once the buyer has provided their actual address, so they can contact our system to make sure the tax/shipping charges are appropriate for that address. This prevents confusing or misleading the buyer in case the address they provide does not match the location they'd specified in their cart before checkout, which may change the calculated tax/shipping charges.
