I noticed that there is a <merchant-note> field in the IPN Data. Is there anyway we can add a variable of our own into this? For example, username.

We're not quite sure we follow what you mean? If you're referring to our IPN-style custom/3rd-party Integration feature, that's a straight passthrough of the data fields we receive from the payment processor, plus a few extra fields that our system generates which the payment processors do not handle. These fields are documented here:

It's not clear how your own extra field could fit into that scheme, but perhaps if you could explain in more detail what you mean to accomplish, we could recommend something to meet that objective.
I am hoping to pass a username. I have an order history tab set up on my site and I try to match purchases to users with IP. But this is no where near a perfect method since some have settings to change IPs at https: sites, etc.
But now that I actually think about it, ejunkie would have to pick up the username when they click add to cart, only to send it to the payment processor, to send it back to ejunkie, to POST it to me. I think Ill be using IPs for awhile.
