Hi there,

Following checkout, the buyer information page lets someone tick to receive product updates/newsletters.

1. Am I right in saying I cannot customize this buyer info page to entice more people to tick the box?

2. Can I create a completely new page to replace the buyer information page? Almost the same question as no.1 I guess.

3. Is there any way to get a user to sign up for my newsletters automatically on purchase (so without having to tick the box). I appreciate they will still need to receive an opt-in email whatever.

4. If none of these options work, I could ask someone to sign up for my newsletter prior to purchase but this might reduce the take up. Do you know any other commonly used methods to improve newsletter sign up linked to purchasing a product?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks very much,

Stefan

Hello Stefan,

The opt-in box for newsletters and updates that appears on most checkout pages is a requirement, and cannot be removed or customized.

However, if you happen to be using a standard PayPal account (such as business or premier) you won't need to worry about that. That particular form of checkout always passes the buyer through to your list without an opt-in being necessary, so if you are using PayPal be sure that you include an opt-in message from your list for new entries.

Thanks very much for your message.

Just to double check, are you saying the buyer is automatically added to my list, and doesn't receive an activation link type email at all?

If that's the case, why would I need to send an opt-in message. Do you mean some kind of welcome message?

New to all this so still just getting my bearings.

Thanks again,

Stefan

Stefan,

If you are using PayPal Standard (business or premier) then your buyers will automatically have their information sent to your third-party newsletter system and our mailing list. Your third-party newsletter will still send their opt-in letter.

If you are using PayPal Payment Pro, Authorize.net or our Free Checkout option, then your buyers will have to go through a double opt-in, opting in on the checkout page and then being sent an opt-in letter from your third-party newsletter system.
