Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to generate a unique discount code that would be sent in the thank you e-mail. I would like to offer a 10% discount for our other products valid for 5 days after purchase and only usable once. I don't want a standing code because I don't want it shared all over the internet.

I see how to create multiple discount codes, but will the e-junkie thank you e-mail automatically go down the code list so different codes go out after each purchase? If so, would it work across multiple products?

thank you,

Andrea

Unfortunately, we don't have any way to issue a discount code that expires at some set time after it is issued. You can, however, create discount codes that are good for only one use, and issue each buyer their own, unique code. Whether they use the code themselves or pass it to a friend, you'd still be getting the return business, and after the code is used once by anybody, it becomes invalid for everybody.

First, you will need to generate a list of unique codes. For this, we'd recommend using a site like 37http://www.random.org/strings/37 -- mixing numeric digits and uppercase letters should be fine. Copy the list generated and paste it into a text file using Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac).

Next, go to Seller Admin > Cart Discounts / Gift Coupons. Set up the following discount:

- Product: All Cart Items;

- Discount Name: 10% off (but see notes below);

- Discount Codes: [paste your list of codes here]

- Max. Use Count: 1;

- Discount: 10, select "%";

- Applies to: Item Total;

- Leave all other settings blank/0 and click Submit.

That will spin off a series of discounts with identical settings, one for each code you pasted into your Discount Codes list.

Then edit the product you want to have issuing the discount codes and set up the following in addition to its existing settings:

- Enable "Send Stored Codes";

- Add a note in the Email Message field explaining what the code is for (the code itself will automatically be included), or for products using Templated Email, add [%codes%] where the code should be inserted in the template;

- Click Next until you see the PIN/Registration Codes box;

- Paste your list of codes in the box;

- Click Next until you can Submit changes.

If more than one product will be issuing discount codes, repeat all of the steps above for each product, but use a different Discount Name for each one, perhaps referencing the Item Name or Number of the product that will issue that list of codes (e.g. "10% off via This Widget Name" or "10% off via 123456"). Note that you can have up to 10,000 discounts in total configured at once for your account, limiting you to a maximum of 10,000 total Discount Codes at once if you don't have any other discounts, so subdivide that accordingly if you'll be doing this for more than one product.

Thanks for the response. Just 1 follow-up question;

What if 2 products are purchased originally and both have been set up to deliver a unique discount code for 10% off of the next purchase. Will the buyer be able return and apply both discount codes and get 20% off?

Thanks,

Andrea

They wouldn't be able to combine discounts to get 20% off, since a buyer can only have one discount for All Cart Items applied to their cart's Item Total at a time. However, they could use each code in two separate purchases, getting 10% off each one.

I am doing a product upgrade. Is there anyway I can automatically send out an email to everyone who has bought a particular product from me, with discount codes for the new product included?

You can use our Updates & Newsletters service to send previous buyers either an Update with a free link to download the latest version of the product file, or a Newsletter with a common discount code they can use to purchase an update from your site:

2http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.updates.htm2

If you want to use the Newsletter discount method; you would want to set up a single code that's product-specific and reduces the per-unit price of the selected product. This help page explains our discount settings:

3http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.discounts.htm3

Thank you for answering this so promptly. So it sounds like there isn't a way to do exactly what I need (single use codes for a discount, rather than a free download). Is there a way for me to generate a report of email addresses of all customers who have purchased a product (not all are downloads).

You can create a series of unique, single-use discount codes by pasting a list of codes into the Discount Codes box when you create your discount. However, we don't have a way to send one code to each previous buyer through our Updates & Newsletters service. You may be able to do that with a third-party mailing list service like Aweber or MailChimp, which you can also integrate with E-junkie to subscribe new buyers:

3http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.integration.htm#listserv3

You can view and download your transaction log to get a list of all previous buyer emails:

http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.transaction-log.htm

You can also view and download your Buyer Group list(s) of buyers who have not opted-out from receiving newsletters from you, by visiting this link while you are logged into E-junkie Admin:

I'd like to send a unique discount code for one of my e-junkie listed products, that expires within 7 days, to my subscribers once they sign up for my email list.

Is there a way to do this? I'm using aWeber as my autoresponder. The leads that would be receiving this time sensitive coupon code would not yet be customers.

Thanks!

If Aweber can send a unique discount code to each recipient, from a list of codes you'd provide, this help page explains the basic approach you'd take to set up the discount codes at our end:

4http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/tips.discounts.groupon.htm4

The directions linked above would have you select All Cart Items to take a flat amount off any order, but if you prefer, when you set up the discount you could instead select a specific product and set the discount to markdown the per-unit price of that product by some amount. Either way, you can also specify an Expiration Date for the discount if you want the offer to become invalid after that date/time.

If Aweber only lets you send the same code to all recipients, you would need to set up the discount with just that single code and leave Max. Use Count either blank or set to the max. number of buyers who can claim the discount (e.g., "First 100 customers to claim this offer get $5 off"). It's not technically feasible to track how many times each buyer uses a discount, so issuing each buyer their own, unique discount with Max. Use Count=1 is the only way to limit use to once per customer.

How can I set up my Aweber Webform to capture emails and after capturing that, offer them a 50% off code for my product. I've generated the codes but am not sure how to get one unique discount code back to the customer in my welcome letter to them.

And, is there a way I can test that? I've tested two codes on check out and keep getting invalid code pop up. :(

Thanks for any help.

Marcia

You would need to consult Aweber help pages or support staff to see if and how it might be possible to have their service issue each new subscriber a unique code from a list.

Bear in mind that any discount codes you set up at our end can only be entered in the buyer's cart before checkout, not during checkout on the payment processor's site. "Invalid Code" could mean the code has expired (because its Expiration Date or Max. Use Count has been met), or that the order does not meet the Min. Item Qty./Total thresholds you require to claim the discount. If you're using Buy Now buttons (instead of Cart buttons), bear in mind those will only work with certain discount settings and require a special version of the Buy Now button code:

1http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/faq.discounts.buy-now.htm1

If you're still not sure why the codes you're testing come up as invalid, feel free to email support with those codes and the URL of the page on your site where you're testing them, so we can look at your settings for those codes and test them ourselves:

https://www.e-junkie.com/ej/contact.php

Hum...I'm not using buy now buttons, but add to cart buttons. I might have not entered the min quantity of 1? Yikes... now I have manually load 9500 coupon codes to change them?!?! But, I changed the first one to show a min quantity of one but it still came up invalid code... and then tried one with min quantity of 0 and same invalid code...

I'll contact support with what you mentioned... and then Aweber to ask about generated codes..thanks!

Marcia

We received your email and replied to that. In case anyone with a similar issue happens across this post, here's the gist of what we found:

First, a Min. Item Qty. of 1 is effectively the same as 0, since 0 means the item isn't in the buyer's cart at all; both mean the buyer must have at least 1 of the selected item in their cart to qualify for the discount, so that can't be the problem.

It appears you'd set up the discount to markdown the price of a particular item, but the Add to Cart button on your page where you were testing is for a different product. Thus, adding only the latter item to a cart and trying to enter one of those discount codes is bringing up an Invalid Code message because that discount only applies to a particular item that is not in the buyer's cart.

Since you've already created so many discounts, and aside from Item Names and Numbers the two products appear otherwise identical, the simplest way to resolve this would be to replace the Add to Cart button on your page, removing the current button and replacing it with an Add to Cart button for the discountable product. You can obtain button code from your Seller Admin for the latter item if you click "Get BUY NOW/CART buttons for your products", select that product, and click Get Button Codes.

Selling an ebook, I'd like each buyer to get an email that reads something like, 'if you'd like to refer my book to your friends, give them this discount code xxx. They will get 1.00 off, and you will get 1.00 back in Paypal for every one of your friends that buy my book.' (Where xxx is unique to each buyer, so I can track which buyers are owed money.)

Can I do this with e-junkie coupon codes? Is there a way to automate the process?

thanx,

bunderwo

We don't have any way to provide the 1.00 back to the original buyer, though from your PayPal account you could manually refund 1.00 of each eligible buyer's payment or just send them 1.00.

However, we do have a way you could set up and issue the 1.00-off discount codes. The setup would be similar to setting up and selling Gift Coupons, as explained here:

2http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/tips.gift-coupons.htm#online2

The difference is that rather than creating a separate Gift Coupon product, your ebook product would also be the Gift Coupon product, using Send Stored Codes to issue a code with each purchase. You would probably want to Enable Templated Email for that product, so you could specify a custom Email Message template that would allow you to determine where and how the code is presented in the message. You can use the template tag [%codes%] where the code should be inserted, and the tag [%thankyou_link%] where a link to the buyer's download page should be inserted.

Next, go to Seller Admin > Cart Discounts / Gift Coupons. Set up the following discount:

- Product: All Cart Items;

That will spin off a series of discounts with identical settings, one for each code you pasted into your Discount Codes list.

Hi,

is this working by "All Cart Items" only or for products also?

Background:

I have members and gold members. If a buyer will purchase the normal membership he will get a 10% discount for some(not all) products with individually code in the thank you mail. If a buyer will purchase golden membership he will get 50% for the same products.

Is that possible?

Regards Juergen

Product-specific discounts normally only alter the per-unit base price of the selected product by a flat amount, so you would set up a percentage discount by calculating that percentage of the original price and enter that as your discount amount -- e.g., 10% off a product normally priced at 20.00 would be a price discount of 2.00 per unit, so that's what you would enter as the discount amount.

That said, if you have a product with variable pricing (i.e., using either "Let buyer edit price" or Variants that alter the price depending on buyer-selected options) and need to offer a fixed percentage discount on that product regardless of how the price may vary, we do have an undocumented hack to make that possible. Set up your product-specific discount, but enter the discount amount as 0.00XX where XX is the percentage you want taken off -- e.g., for a 10% discount, you would enter 0.0010 as the discount amount. Our system will recognize a discount amount entered that way as indicating a percentage rather than a flat-amount price adjustment.
