Hey,

Currently I ship only to U.S. and am looking to make international shipping doable on the shopping cart.

I'm looking to connect my shipping calculator to USPS.com live and use their priority mail boxes.

What I can't figure out, is how to add an extra handling fee (ideally a %) on order outside the U.S., as shipping costs are much higher to I get dinged more from paypal.

Our price point is setup to include the cost of shipping within the US, but since rates are so much higher for abroad, we would be cutting from our margin unless I could add a mark-up to the rates from USPS live.

Thanks

If I'm understanding correctly, you offer Free Shipping to the US, but you want to set up USPS Priority Mail rate lookups for destinations outside the US, and tack on an extra % for Handling to non-US buyers? If so, here's how you'd set that up:

Go to Seller Admin > View/Edit/Delete Products:

Select an existing shippable product of yours and click Edit;

On the first screen, if Shipping/Buyer's Address is not checked there, tick that box;

Click Next until you reach the Shipping Options screen;

  • Weight: [enter an accurate per-unit weight for the product]
  • Package type & Capacity: [if you will ship a single parcel for each entire order, select the same Package for all products and set their Capacity to 9999]

Click Next until you can Submit to save settings;

Repeat this for all your tangible goods;

When adding new shippable products, remember to enable Shipping/Buyer's Address.

Go to Seller Admin > Cart Shipping Settings and set up the following:

Shipping Origin: select United States and enter your zipcode;

Shipping Destinations: if you will only ship to certain countries, select them in the list, or otherwise select nothing for Worldwide shipping;

Handling: Select "% of Shipping" and enter the percentage of Priority Mail rates that should be tacked onto non-US orders;

Leave all other settings blank or 0.00;

Click Next to save settings and proceed to the Shipping Rules screen.

In the Existing Shipping Rules menu, select and Delete any Rules you may have saved there.

Set up your first Shipping Rule for Domestic shipping:

Shipping Rate Calculator: Flat

Shipping Amount: 0.00;

Country: United States;

Click Submit to save the Rule.

If you will ship Internationally at a different rate:

Shipping Rate Calculator: USPS Priority;

Country: All Countries (this covers the rest of your Shipping Destination countries that don't have a Rule of their own);

Click Submit to save the Rule.

Click Back to Admin, and you're done!

Hey,

I don't offer free shipping but charge the rate for usps flat rate priority mail boxes. Currently I do this by creating shipping rules and manually entering the most recent price. I currently only have the cart setup for domestic, US, orders, because there would be too many shipping rules to cover all countries.

What I would like to do is be able to connect to usps.com live, and have rates brought in for the flat rate boxes. I tried deleting all my shipping rules and selecting priority mail, and the rates were all off.

Is this because it's not picking up the flat rate boxes? Is it possible to do that?

I would need to set rules somehow to tell it which size box to select.

Thanks

Our system doesn't query for the flat rate results, it goes by Priority Mail costs on ordinary packaging which will be slightly different. If you would like to use the Flat Rate costs you can set flat rates based off of the Post Office's current costs for those boxes, or even set them as your packaging costs if you don't need to switch between the boxes very often.
