I'm confused on who sends what emails and where people go. Here's my scenario:

I'm doing event registration. The registration form is being handled separately with a google form and at the end of that process, the user will receive an email that we've gotten their registration information and now they need to pay if they haven't already.

The payment process is on the registration page, they add the tickets, shirts, meal tickets, etc to their e-junkie cart then checkout with Paypal. The transfer of cart items to Paypal seems to be working ok, so when they complete the payment process with Paypal, they should get a receipt from Paypal and land back on my site.

I presumed I need to delete the common thank you email from my seller admin so they don't get a "cart receipt", which I've done. What do I need to do in Paypal to send the payment receipt to them AND get the user back to my site?

To return buyers to your site after checkout, go into your E-junkie Seller Admin > Account Preferences > Common Thank-you Page URL and paste in the URL of the landing page on your site that buyers should be returned to; this will override the standard thank-you/download page we normally generate for you.

PayPal should automatically send the buyer a payment receipt email once their payment is completed. If you have been placing test orders and are seeing those payments listed with Pending status in your PayPal account history, please see this help page to ensure that PayPal can automatically complete your buyers' payments:

I am not seeing any completed orders in your E-junkie Transaction Log, which is normal if all your test payments are still stuck in Pending status, but if your payments are showing as Completed in PayPal, please see this help page for further troubleshooting instructions:

I also found something about the auto-returns directing to fatfreecartpro. If adding that to my Paypal settings auto-return URL is part of the answer, do you know which takes precedence if I have a Paypal button created by their wizard configured with a different auto-return URL?

Thanks. I'm still in setup and configuration mode, so no test payments have been made yet.

You would use the purchase button codes we provide in your E-junkie Seller Admin, rather than using any buttons provided by PayPal, so their button wizard would be irrelevant if you're using E-junkie. This help page explains more about obtaining your E-junkie button codes and the different types of buttons we offer:

Normally, PayPal provides a Complete Purchase button at the end of checkout, which the buyer would click to proceed to any thank-you page. However, if you are not selling any downloads, you can auto-return the buyer to a thank-you page. To set that up, go to your PayPal account's Profile > My Selling Tools > Website Preferences screen, set Auto-Return: ON and Payment Data Transfer: ON, and provide this Return URL where indicated:

Ok, I put in the common thank you page URL and I just ran through 2 tests and I didn't get what I was expecting...the transfer of cart stuff to paypal, fine, filled in the name/address etc form, credit card form, pay now. At this point I get a "Thanks for your order" Complete purchase, clicked on that, get ANOTHER Thanks for your order redirect in 10 seconds which does the redirect to my thank you page.

I need to shed at least one of those thanks for your order pages. What am I missing?

There is nothing you are missing, the first "Thank you for your order" is a page from PayPal, there is not a way to remove that. The second one is a page we display while we wait for the redirected thank you page you setup to respond to our servers request to send buyers to that page.

I am sorry, but there is not going to be a way to remove either one of those.
