I am setting up an online store for my US-based business, and am looking for a shopping cart that can deal with my complex shipping needs.
My company sells specialty parts to do-it-yourselfers. Orders are shipped directly from the manufacturers to the purchasers. A single order might include 2 items that need to be shipped via UPS from a vendor in Sacramento, California, twelve items from a vendor in Berkeley, California; six items that need to be shipped via UPS from Indiana, and an item that will be shipped via USPS from Florida.
The items shipping from Sacramento will be shipped in separate boxes, and need to have weight-based shipping calculated separately for each item, based on recipient's ZIP code.
The items shipping from Berkeley will be shipped in one box, and need to have weight-based shipping calculated based on the recipient's ZIP code.
The Indiana vendor will ship items together in one box up to 70 pounds, at which point they add a second box (and a third and fourth box if necessary). Their shipments also need to have weight-based shipping calculated based on recipient's ZIP code.
The item from Florida ships flat rate.
Once calculated, these shipping amounts need to be added together so that the customer sees one number for shipping. It is the same thing that Amazon does when a buyer buys items from several different vendors who do their own shipping.
Many of the items I sell are large and heavy — 40 to 60 pounds — so shipping costs are significant, and having an accurate shipping calculator can make the difference between whether someone buys or not, and whether I make a profit or not.
Can e-Junkie's shopping cart system do what I need to do?
If not, does anyone have suggestions for an alternative?
Thanks,
Joy
