Webhost services can handle digital downloads?

I plan to start an e-Book service but I don't understand why I need your service ... my potential webhost services all seem to think that they can handle the digital downloads to my customers directly from my uploaded files ... I am confused and would hope that you could clarify as to whether they are misleading me or whether I am missing something here!
