Testing the Download

I have loaded my product which is a secure e.book, and needs a code for the customer to download.

Setting this up was reasonably straightforward, but I would like to test the system to make sure I have completed the task properly and the e-junkie system works.



Cannot find anywhere on the site where or how I can do this. Anyone know?

Hi half



I recently joined Ejunkie for exactly the same purpose - selling an ebook using an activation key (don't suppose you're using Desktop Author by any chance?). It's been quite a long and painful road, and although I'm not quite ready to launch I'm getting close.



To test the system, which combines Ejunkie and Paypal, I set the ebook price at 1p (sterling).



Testing has shown up a couple of little quirks, especially with Paypal, so let me know how you get on. I'd be happy to exchange experiences.

This did allow me to test at 1p, and all worked according to plan, so thank you for that.



Whilst it only allows 2 download attempts, which is good, it does not 'protect' my e.book from being sent via email unfortunately.



I have not been able to locate reasonably priced software that will allow me to restrict the e.book being opened on more than one computer. How do you handle this?

Hi Half



I use ebook software Desktop Author, which has in-built security features. It cost me around £100. You can see it at www.desktopauthor.com



While the end product of my labours looks good, the process of using it has been little short of a nightmare. It's been trial and error, with patchy support from the supplier. I'm struggling to go as far as recommending it to you, but it certainly has all the features required to create a great looking ebook with integrated protection.

I'll take a look, but I simply created mine in Word and then created a PDF. Looks great, but even with a secure password, the user can simply pass on the password.



What type of security does it offer? will it stop anoter person opening it?

All seemed to go OK with the test...however, the email that I got (as the customer) said I could view my order details in this sentence and link:



Your can view your order details at

https://www.e-junkie.com/d/?t=1V033561XY054643K&c=2lwj



...and when you select the link, it took me to the 'Thank-You' page on my site, not the details of their order? I assumed this would take me to the 'invoice' with the transaction code quoted in the same email.



That can't be right, can it?

It sounds like you are redirecting to a thank-you page on your own site instead of using our standard thank-you page where the download link is normally presented, so please see this help page:

Note that our download-link expiration settings can only control how many times, and for how long, the buyer can attempt to START a download; we cannot determine how many, if any, of those attempts ever get completed, and once they complete a single download, they can copy and share your file without having to download again.
