We want to send codes to customers who have already purchased in the past, when we didn't have codes attached to the product. Now we want to send them codes.

If I attach stored codes to a current product and then send out updates to all the previous customers, will previous customers then be assigned stored codes? Will this conflict with future customers?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, our Updates feature cannot be used to distribute a unique code to each recipient (a la our Send Stored/Generated Codes feature); it can only distribute free download links.

Third-party mailing list services may have a way to distribute codes from a list you'd provide them; we'd recommend checking with Aweber, MailChimp, and GetResponse, as they can also integrate with us to have new buyers subscribed to lists you manage with them (in case you may wish to continue using their services for that purpose). To get a list of previous buyer emails to import for such a mailing list, you can query your E-junkie Transaction Log for the relevant product and date range, click View Log to run the query, then click Download Log to save that log view to a tab-delimited text file you can open and edit in any spreadsheet program like Excel.

Ah I see. Thanks. I may just use mailchimp then for the old customers and serials for the new customers.

As an alternative, would it work to create a PDF and make a grouped product since PDFs can have serial stamps? Or is that a different thing.

Presumably you're aware of how our Send Stored/Generated Codes features work, but just in case:

Regarding PDFs, I infer you're referring to our PDF Stamping feature:

That just stamps each buyer's name, email, and unique Transaction ID in the upper-left corner of every page of their copy of your downloaded PDF. This can only work for purchased downloads or individual free downloads issued manually via "Send free download link" for Single File Download products; it cannot be used for free links issued en masse via Updates, nor for PDFs bundled with other files using "Package files from other products".
