Hi. I'm new to E-junkie and I am hoping to implement it on a number of websites to sell digital downloads. However, I'm having a problem with Chrome, which crashes when trying to load the thank you/download page after checking out with PayPal. Apparently this is a long standing bug within Chrome, though I can find no mention of it on the forum. If it is a bug in Chrome is there any workaround? Because if not, a large (25%?) of potential customers who use Chrome are going to experience the issue. Many thanks.

This is indeed a long-standing bug with Chrome:

This bug was first reported in v.5 and currently scheduled to be fixed in v.19 (unless it gets bumped back again); current v. is 17, but it's become a more prevalent problem lately as Chrome gains in popularity.

Unfortunately, it appears to be the act of redirection itself, and the specific way PayPal performs that, which trips over the bug in Chrome, so it doesn't matter what URL is being redirected to after checkout; affected buyers aren't even getting as far as hitting anything at our end before Chrome hangs.

Right now we're looking into the feasibility of possibly detecting when a buyer is using Chrome before we send their cart order to checkout, so we can at least remove the return URL from their order details and maybe squeeze a message into the Complete Purchase button that PayPal shows after checkout, advising the buyer to watch their email for further details about their order.

Hi,

is there any progress on this issue?

I've just signed up to ejunkie and spent several days over the last few weeks putting all my products etc, ready to "go live" and have discovered this issue as I've been testing the checkout process.

I dont have a problems with my digital download products but with my products which are posted (don't know why this is) google chrome crashes after the person has paid but before the thankyou page is displayed.

Is there any work around at all for this problem? Otherwise it seems as though I'm going to have to start over elsewhere!!

So frustrating, this was looking like such an excellent program...

Unfortunately there's no workaround that we've been able to achieve from this end yet. The problem is specific to the Chrome browser and they should hopefully get around to fixing it on their end sooner than later, but until then Chrome users are pretty much at the mercy of Chrome-specific bugs like this.

Even should any of your buyers using Chrome run into this issue they will be getting emails from our system immediately after the order which will contain the information they need to complete their downloads, so even if the page hangs the buyer won't be losing out on their order.

I think that you will find that it's not a temporary problem. In fact Chrome has been reportedly having download problems since 2009. I was having a problem pulling a download from a web page that worked in all other browsers but found that Chrome was claiming a server error.

A search turned up a discussion in the Google support forum, and there is no fix. There hasn't been a fix since 2009 so it looks like they don't care much.

This is what happens when monkeys make web browsers.

Of interest, the latest entry for this bug in Google's bugtracker indicates that this bug has reached their policy limit for the number of times a bugfix can be deferred to a later version; hopefully, if they actually follow their own policy, this should mean the bug will be fixed by Chrome v.20 (currently v.19).
