Hey everybody, just started sales through E-junkie, and I have a question about an order that someone placed on my website. I received a sale notification email from e-junkie, and it said that there may be a possible shipping/tax fraud, along with the message: WARNING: Zipcode entered by buyer in checkout page(****6) does not match zipcode entered in cart(****7) to calculate shipping/tax!

So the zipcode entered in the checkout page is in the same city as I am selling from, so sales tax should be collected. However the zipcode in the cart was from a different state, which is a different shipping price and has no sales tax. In the end, the price paid for shipping was too much, but no sales tax was paid. It will be shipped out to the same city I operate in.

Is there any way to set up my cart so that this issue can be avoided in the future? It seems like an easy loophole for buyers to get out of paying taxes, but then they overpay on shipping!

Thanks!

Doug

Hello Doug,

We try to control this as much as possible, checkout methods that are in our control lock the shipping zip code to what was entered in the cart. But since most checkouts are handled by a third party processors on their own checkout screens we don't always get to lock that information in or dynamically update any shipping or sales tax calculations based on what the buyer enters at checkout.

When we notice that there was a difference between what was entered in the cart versus what was entered at checkout we notify you so that you can hold the order until the buyer pays the correct amount if necessary.

Is there anyway to turn this email process off? I sell over 100 digital products and seem to get this email for almost every sale made outside of USA. Since I am not worried about tax on my products I don't need to be warned about shipping fraud

If you are not charging tax nor shipping for your digital products, make sure you disable both Shipping/Buyer's Address and Sales Tax/VAT in the settings of each product that should not calculate tax/shipping. That way, the cart will not require buyers to select a country and enter their ZIP/postal code before proceeding to checkout.

We can disable these settings for all of your products across-the-board if you wish; to confirm your identity, please email this request to support along with your E-junkie account password, or your original activation code would suffice if you still have your original "Account information" email from us:
