This is just a heads-up for everyone who uses PayPal as a payment source.
The last few days I have had a few customers contact me checking shipping status of orders they placed during July. I have no record of these orders. They have all paid via PayPal, and so far every customer has noticed their payment receipt has a date of December 31, 1969 PST, which shows a Linux programming error. Their transaction ID number is 0 as well.
I contacted PayPal's Tech Support about it and they confirmed 'they are aware' of the error and are trying to correct it. I have no idea how many customers will be contacting me wondering where their orders are, orders I have never received. None of their payments have actually been processed, but my customers believe they have a valid order, with product on the way and a receipt for payment. Boy, that is really bad for business! Here I thought my site turned invisible. All the while customers have been ordering, or at least believed they had ordered. If this has happened to me, and it is on PayPal's side, I am sure it's happening to many others. I currently use PayPal Merchant and am not sure if its PayPal wide or not ...but assume it is. As of now, they have not contacted me as they said they would to let me know it has been corrected.
PayPal Customer Service does not know anything about the programming error and have told my customers 'they were not logged in' for that to happen. That is not correct, they were logged in as the receipts show their confirmed addresses. You have to contact PayPal Tech Support.
