I was updating my Thank You Email template yesterday via Account Pref. I checked the box that says "Receive a copy of email sent to buyer" because I wanted to see how it looked.



The customer ordered one product.



Here are the results:

The Variables were only shown and not the "Hours", "Product" or "Total Price". This was a little embarrassing :-).



Any idea why?

Make sure you check the box to Enable Templated Email in the product settings if you want to use template variables in your message for that product. Bear in mind that this will completely override our standard thank-you email, so be sure to use [%download_link%] or [%thankyou_link%] to insert a link to the thank-you page where download links are presented.

It looks like, though, this option is already checked for my 4 products.



Some variables work fine, some do not process the info.

One thing we forgot to mention above, some variables cannot work in a Common email versus a product specific email.



For example, we can't use [%item_name%] in the common email because there may be more than one item on an order and there's no way to tell which one should be named. [%item_name%] can work in the email message sent out for a specific product, where it will always reference that one product's name.



If you refer to our help page here you can see which tags work in the common setting and which only work in an item specific setting:

Only the tags under the Order Specific heading will work in your common email, those are the variables that have to do with the order in general rather than any reference to a specific item that may or not be on the order.

Makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how the variable would work with more the one item. This explains it.



Any idea why the "[%expiry_hours%] " didn't show? I have my products set to 120 hours.





One more important question...



If "Enable Template E-Mail" is checked inside of a product, then this will by-pass the common email when this particular product is ordered?



So basically, If all Template Email checkboxes are unchecked for products, then the Common template is sent for all?

We always send the buyer your Common Thank-you Email for every order, regardless of which item(s) they ordered. In addition, we also send a separate, product-specific thank-you email for each digital item they order, and for any tangible item they order that has anything entered in the product's Email Message field.



If you want to disable the product-specific messages and only send a single, Common Thank-you Email for each order, tick the Enable Templated Email checkbox in the settings of each digital product and leave the Email Message field there blank (since we can't generate an email from a template if no template is provided :^). For tangible items, you can just leave the Email Message field blank, whether or not they also have Enable Templated Email checked.



If you were using [%expiry_hours%] in your Common Thank-you Email template, that would not have worked because [%expiry_hours%] is an item-specific variable that only works in product-based thank-you email templates.
