I cannot get the discount field to show up.

I'm using the button that adds to cart (not the buy now button). When I click on Add to Cart, there is an option to update quantities, and the screen says "You can apply gift certificates, rewards, or other discounts later." in bottom left hand corner. But it's not true. The discount field never appears.

I asked three friends to try it. They concur with me. How can I get the discount field to appear?

Make sure you are using your standard E-junkie Cart button codes, which provide full support for all our features including discount codes.

The optional "PayPal Cart" version of button codes provided in Seller Admin are not necessary if you merely want to accept checkout with PayPal, and they no longer work correctly in many regards due to recent changes at PayPal's end which we have been unable to work around, so that version of codes will be removed from the next version of Seller Admin we've been working on. The standard E-junkie cart button codes will offer buyers a PayPal checkout button in the E-junkie cart.

Thanks so much. My fourth friend found the very hidden discount code box. So it's there, but not very obvious. If my computer savvy friends can't find it, I fear my blog readers can't either. I guess that's a Paypal issue, though since it shows after PP login. :-(

But... she can't get the code to work. Sigh.... this is difficult. I've read the page about discount codes over and over.

Can I set up a code to make a product FREE?

IE 100% discount? I wanted to do that to ask my friends to test the system out. I can't sell to myself, so I can't test it myself or I would. (I tried, BTW.)

I also modified the discount for the total price of the product. Is that possible? I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

When I try to create a discount for an individual product, the FLAT/% field is grayed out and won't let me select. WHY?

Discounts you configure in E-junkie would need to be applied in the buyer's E-junkie cart before they proceed to checkout, not during checkout on PayPal's site. The Discount Code field will only appear in the E-junkie cart if items in the cart or the whole cart order itself would qualify for a discount you have set up in your Seller Admin.

Product-specific discounts can only alter the per-unit price of the product, not take a single, flat amount off the order total nor a percentage (though you can figure what that percentage of the full price works out to, and set that as your discount amount). Discounts for All Cart Items can take a single, flat amount or percentage off the Item Total (pre-tax/-shipping subtotal) or Shipping & Handling charges.

For testing purposes, you can create a secret Discount Code that takes 100% off the Item Total, so you can enter that code in your own cart to place a test order yourself without going through PayPal. Since this discount would be applicable to any cart order, creating this discount would also cause the Discount Code field to always be displayed in the cart for all your buyers. This help page gives other tips for testing various aspects of your E-junkie setup:

Thank you again.

You were right. I was using the PayPal button instead of the EJunkie one. (Quite confusing for a newbie for me. Good call to remove that altogether from the interface.) I have a more experienced blogging friend who helped me out.

Now my coupon code works.

It was all user error. I apologize for my denseness. And I thank you for your kind explanations.
