I'm selling my pdf ebook via e-Junkie -- it's been working great! But, people are asking for different versions. For instance, one person wants .epub. for her Sony Reader, and somebody else wants to download to Kindle.

How do I know if my pdf will work in those formats? It's just a regular pdf of a word document.

Thanks,

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

You would have to offer up versions of your ebook that are compatible with those readers, either as separate products or by stuffing every possible format into a zip folder and selling that under a single product. The .pdf format itself isn't compatible with those devices or else your buyers wouldn't have to ask for other versions.

I couldn't personally direct you to a way to easily convert a .pdf into a format that those devices would take, I recommend investigating the Kindle and Sony Reader further to find out about their requirements and whether or not you want to offer your book in the proper format for those devices.

Actually, my buyers aren't asking for other versions -- they're asking if pdf format is compatible with Sony or Kindle (without having tried it themselves). I don't have a Kindle or Reader so I can't test it myself.

But, it sounds like you can read a pdf on both readers, based on my research.

Depending on which version of the Sony Reader or the Kindle the buyers have they should be able to transfer a PDF file directly to the device and read the eBook.

We are currently selling our eBook as PDF as well, but the links don't work on the Kindle.

Anyone able to offer advice on creating.converting the original book to a Kindle eBook where the links do work?

I'm sorry, but E-junkie cannot provide direct downloads to Amazon's Kindle devices, only Amazon can provide direct downloads. Your buyers will need to download the files to their computers and then transfer the PDF to their Kindle eReaders.

Ninja,

What post are you answering? Of course you can't provide direct downloads to Kindle devices!

The question is this:

1) How can we convert (NOT DOWNLOAD) our eBooks to be Kindle compatible format such that the LINKS work? PDF links don't work in Kindle or nor does the text size control work.

2) Do you support some native kindle format as a file type that customers can download?

We are finding that this question is getting very popular from eBook customers.

Thanks!

ECSimplified, I'm sorry, I did misunderstand your question.

1) We do not have a way to convert your file to Amazon's .AZW file format. As a Kindle owner myself, the only ways I know this is possible is to sell the eBook through Amazon's CreateSpace Program, or each Kindle owner has the option to e-mail files to their Kindle and Amazon converts the file for a very small fee. I have done the second to read a some friends eBooks.

2) We do not have any limitations on the file type you can setup within your E-junkie account.

Amazon's .AZW file format is similar to the Mobipocket format, either .MOBI or .PRC. We do have merchants who sell eBooks in these formats.
