Hello!

I am new to E-junkie, and am still quite blur here.

I'm launching my second eBook almost 10 years after my first.

PDF formatted book recognizes only one password per book to open.

For my own security (though not 100%) I could create, say, 30 copies and have each copy assigned with an unique password. (BTW, one can also upload the eBook and the password of the Ebook he bought and share publicly if he really wants to)

However, can I upload these 30 copies of eBook to the E-junkie server?

And if I can, would E-junkie be able to send the download link to the buyer randomly from amongst the 30 copies together with the unique password?

If this couldn't be done, then how do we authors better protect ourselves apart from Copyright protection? (I have already done this)

Is there really any effective method to drastically reduce losses to sales cause by infringement of this nature?

I did some research on this and several old timers suggested not bothering on this too much, else we'll never go far, let alone even start. Well, I'd like to hear from you :)

... And if I still want to have my eBook password protected, how does E-junkie do it?

Thanks!

We would recommend setting up our PDF Stamping feature to deter file-sharing:

33http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/selling-ebooks.htm33

Note how that also provides an option for applying each buyer's unique Transaction ID as a User (read-only) password for their own Stamped copy of the PDF. Regardless of this, all Stamped PDFs are always locked with a secret, randomized Master password to prevent tampering with the file.

Bear in mind that locking the file with a User (read-only) password tends to annoy and frustrate buyers and isn't very secure when you're providing the password along with the file, which is rather like locking something with a padlock and leaving the key in the lock. This type of password is typically used in corporate environments where the user already knows the password and can be trusted not to share it with others, only rendering the file useless in case a third party acquires the file by accident or theft (e.g., stolen/lost laptop or flash drive, hacked email account, etc.).

Thank you very much for your sharing. Agreed with the analysis and suggestions on this matter. Appears that for now, the optimal solution is still using the Stamping feature.

Hi!

I'm encountering some problems which I have no clue.

1). I have uploaded my PDF eBook with a User password, say 'abc123' for example.

I have also entered in the Payment Variable Information URL field, this one long line:

http://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/oplug.php?ej_stamp_pdf=true&pdf_allow_copy=y&pdf_allow_print=y&pdf_pwd=abc123

However, when I did 3 test purchases and downloaded the PDF book from the post-payment link displayed, on all 3 occasions there's no Stamping on the downloaded file. Also, I was prompted on all 3 occasions to enter the User password.

Why is the Stamping feature not enabled by the string <ej_stamp_pdf=true> ?

and why despite attaching my User password to the string <pdf_pwd=abc123> I still have to enter the User password in order to open the eBook?

What if I re-upload my ebook without the User password? Would the Stamping feature (provided it works) be able to disallow attempts by user to change the texts and images?

2). I have uploaded my logo (which is sharp) but it displays an extremely blrred and distorted logo on the Download link post-payment page. Is that a bug?

3). I entered some customized HTML code for display on the thank you page shown to buyers after the payment. Â Although I entered the message in 3 paragraphs, it lumps all three paragraphs into one on the post-payment page display. Do I actually need to enter this message in html source code (with breaks ) in order to display the paragraphs correctly?

4). I want to list my eBook in the E-junkie shop and market place, is there any example I can refer to on what to write in the large Required Information/Details box? After populating that box where can I see the actual display of my Information entered?

Thanks very much!

Responding to your questions in order:

1) If a PDF cannot be stamped for any reason, download links for that file would simply issue an identical copy of the uploaded file, so this would explain why you received an unstamped file with the original User password, indicating the file was not processed through the Stamper at all.

Note that PDF Stamping will not work on a file within the first 15 minutes after you upload that file, so wait at least 15 minutes after upload before you place a test order or use Send Free Download Link to issue yourself a test link.

If the file you upload has both a Master and User passwords which differ, you must specify the Master password in your PDF Stamping URL; this is so the Stamper can fully unlock the file to extract its contents and recompile them into a new PDF that includes the stamp and any other limitations you tell the Stamper to apply. Also, password-locked files can only be unlocked for Stamping if they were saved with the Compatibility option set to "Acrobat 5.0 And Later" (PDF v1.4) or lower, not "Acrobat 6.0 And Later" (PDF v1.5) nor higher.

If this doesn't explain why your file was not stamped, please email support with the proper password to open your file, so we can download a copy and open it to examine its settings more closely:

2) Your uploaded logo looks nice and sharp to me now. Perhaps your browser was showing you a cached copy of the page from before you uploaded the new logo, so it was loading the new logo image, but stretching it to fit the old logo's dimensions. If you're still seeing a distorted logo, try holding Ctrl (on PC) or Shift (on Mac) while clicking the Refresh button, which should force your browser to redownload a fresh copy of the page.

3) That sounds like a known bug in old versions of the Flash player plugin for Mac:

It appears that Adobe has fixed that bug in more recent versions of Flash, so upgrading your Flash plugin should resolve the problem for you:

4) If you don't have your own Web site or don't wish to paste our buttons into your site, you have the option of posting product listings to your own E-junkie Shop page on our site, listing your products at a specific URL where you can send buyers (http://www.e-junkie.com/37 for example, or http://www.e-junkie.com/162913 would be your own Shop page). Items in your E-junkie Shop will also appear in the general E-junkie Marketplace when you have an active paid subscription for E-junkie. This help page explains more about posting product listings to your optional E-junkie Shop:

http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.promote.htm

The Marketplace primarily just provides a way for search engines like Google to find your products, if you don't have a site of your own that they would normally find otherwise, or if you can't or don't wish to paste purchase buttons into your own site. Posting product listings to an E-junkie Shop page isn't necessary, nor very useful, if you primarily sell directly from your own site.

E-junkie Marketplace is not a major shopping destination site like eBay or Amazon; buyers don't really come to our Marketplace and just browse around looking for things to buy. Most sales in Marketplace happen because of search sites like Google sending buyers directly to a specific product page, or because the seller's own advertising and online marketing sent buyers directly to their E-junkie Shop or product page. If you sell from your own site, you would of course want Google and your own advertising sending buyers to your site, so Shop/Marketplace listings would only be a distraction from that.

Thank you very much for your prompt and helpful response :)

1) I re-uploaded my PDF file and now managed to get it stamped with the buyer's name, email address and the transaction ID on the top left-hand corner of the pdf file. It also works correctly as intended.

I'll find time to explore repositioning the stamped data to a less cluttered location in the file.

2) Yes. Glad to see a sharp logo now.

3) Installed the latest Flash 11.7.700.202, but doesn't help. The 3 paragraphs are still lumped into one.

4) Thanks. Will go through those info provided.

May I know has E-junkie a mobile version script for the Affiliate Program page <https://www.e-junkie.com/ej/admin.php?section=affiliates&rs=af>, including all the link pages under the Manage Your Affliliate Accounts?

If not, is there any possibility of customizing these said pages into mobile optimized pages?

Thank you once again.

Glad to hear you got PDF Stamping working. Unfortunately, the position and appearance of the stamp cannot be customized at present.

Updating Flash won't fix any text you've previously pasted in, as the bug removed all the newlines at the time that text was pasted in, so that lumped-together text is already stored in our system; you will need to repaste new text that is formatted as you wish, which should retain that formatting this time if Adobe has indeed fixed their Flash bug by now.

We are currently working on all-new Admin panels built in HTML that will replace our current, Flash-based Admin; once completed, this new Admin will adapt its layout to fit small screens such as mobile devices and otherwise allow access to our Admin from devices that don't support Flash.

Oh, OK.

I repasted the texts and the paragraphs now display correctly!

Looking forward to the all-new Admin panels then:)

Thanks very much for your response, and have a wonderful day!
