Hi there --

I have multiple eBooks that I sell on my website. I followed your instructions for setting up the Tracking through Google Analytics. Since GA doesn't allow you to use the fatfreecart tracking URL that you guys give us, the only other option is to set up a page on my own site, then connect that to our eJunkie Common Thank You Page, so the customer is sent to that page on our site after purchase. This enables tracking to happen, and the download process to be smooth.

Okay, fair enough.

The only thing that I can't figure out is this...

If someone buys eBook 1 from me, they are directed to that common thank you page.

If someone buys eBook 2 from me, they are directed to that common thank you page.

But over in GA tracking, all it would show is that 2 sales were made.

So how are we supposed to determine which products were purchased through all this tracking? If I can't tell which products are being purchased, then the tracking is worthless, yes?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

By the way, I've been using eJunkie for years. Really love it. You guys are doing a great job!!! I recommend you whenever the occasion arises.

Thank you for the kind words! Are you using our special integration with Google, which includes cart button tracking? Or are you using Buy Now buttons for your ebooks instead?

Since our cart's integration with Google can track clicks that should tell you which buttons are being clicked, and you wouldn't need to use your own thank you page either. That does mean using Add to Cart buttons over Buy Now though, since Buy Now buttons would require the kind of setup you already have.

Hmmmmm...but over in Google Analytics, when I entered the fatfreecart tracking URL, it doesn't work. It must be a thank you page on my website. But you're saying I don't have to use a thank you page on my website, right?

In other words, if I don't enter something over in the Goals area where all this stuff is tracked in Google Analytics, then where would I find all the information about what is being clicked?

Sorry, I think I'm missing something... :-/

You would only need to enter a conversion page URL in Google Analytics if you were using Goals to track conversions. This should not be necessary if you're using the GA Ecommerce Tracking features built into our Cart buttons, our version of the GA tracking code, and the standard thank-you pages we generate for you.

To use our version of the GA tracking code, you must be using our standard Cart buttons that display the cart as an overlay "inside" your own page. When the thank-you pages we generate detect the buyer has a GA tracking cookie set by our version of the GA code, that page will include Ecommerce Tracking details for GA to pick up. Make sure you have enabled Ecommerce Tracking for your GA account as explained here:

https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1009612?hl=en

You can disregard their further instructions regarding the tracking code. Our version of GA tracking code is already preconfigured to allow Cross-Domain and Ecommerce Tracking.

Thanks so much. When I follow that link, the GA instructions say...

1. Click Admin at the top of any screen in Analytics."

2. Use the menu in the View column to select the view you want......

There is no View column. :-/

Okay, I figured it out over in GA. For the future reference of others...

"Use the menu in the View column to select the view you want."

This is actually under NAME (I had to click on my website URL/name twice)

"Click View Settings."

This is actually under "Profile Settings" - Scroll down to the line about Ecommerce Settings.

Thanks so much for all of your help. I will follow instructions to a T here in e-Junkie and cross my fingers I can actually pull it off. :)

But if this works as slick as it should, then GA goals seems FAR more clunky and I might just switch my hard goods over here too.

Have a good day!

Thanks for the update; it appears the instructions on that help page I linked about enabling Ecommerce Tracking have been updated to suit some new terminology that Google is planning but has not yet actually applied to the Google Analytics admin interface. :^/
