Entering a Discount Code

The following instructions appear in the 'Manage Discounts' help section:



Discount Code(s):

Leave this blank if you want to apply the Discount automatically. If you will require buyers to enter a Discount Code to claim the discount before checkout, enter your desired Code(s) here. If providing a list of Codes that would all grant the same Discount, specify a list of codes (one code per line, up to 5000 codes total).





I definitely want customers to manually enter a discount code, but I want there to be just one universal code (in this case 'STF10') to apply the same flat rate discount, regardless how many people use it. Do I still have to enter something in the 'Discount Code' field? The discount will be programmed to end at a specified time and date.

Yes, if you want to require buyers to enter a code to claim the discount, enter that code in the Discount Code field. If you don't want to limit how many orders can be placed with that discount, just leave the Max. Use Count blank (or 0, same thing).



You would only leave the Discount Code field blank if you want a discount to be applied automatically, whenever an order meets the Min. Item Qty. and/or Min. Item Total threshold(s) you set for the discount, without requiring buyers to enter a code at all.

Ok, thanks. Should I enter the code just ONCE in the Discount Code field? I can't quite figure out the circumstances when I should enter a list of codes in that field. Does that not have the same effect as setting the Max Use count?

Yes, enter the discount code in the field only once. As long as you do not enter in a Max Use Count that same code can be used over and over again until the the expiration date you entered in is reached.
