Ensuring Text Boxes are Not Blank - example needed!

Can you please post example code for ensuring that text boxes generated for a product with text-inputted variations can't be submitted to the shopping cart if blank? I've spent too many hours on this and can't get the cart to NOT display if the fields are blank.



I think this would be very helpful for many users like me who don't have lots of javascript experience. Can you please show exactly where the standard button code (for a product with 2 variations, input as text) should be modified, along with the necessary javascript code for the validation function?
