Analytics shows sale but there is no record

Just curious, sometimes I check Google Analytics and see a record of a sale through e-junkie in the e-commerce section - but checking e-junkie logs, there is no sale - wondering if someone clicks on the Buy Now or Add To Cart and ends up stopping (abandoning cart) before the transaction completes - the partial data flows over to Analytics as if the sale completed -and that is what I am seeing? Is this what could be happening?

First, it may help to review how analytics-style tracking works and what it is (and isn't) good for.

In light of that, a stray conversion could be tracked if a buyer clears their cookies or uses a different browser app and then revisits your site and clicks a cart button there before revisiting their thank-you/download page in that browser.

Thank you. I have seen quite a few E-Commerce records of sales or transactions with the price and product listed -as if someone made a purchase - but nothing shows up as having actually happened. I suspected it was a case of cookies being consumed but not being digested. - If you will.
