View cart code not working in Elementor

Hi! So glad to find a community forum here!

We recently built a new site and used Elementor. We have successfully added and tested our shopping buttons, but the "view cart" code doesn't work on Elementor pages. On the backend I get this message,

"Named entity expected. Got none.".

The on-page pop up was such a great feature to allow people to shop while still on page and on-site. The view cart code has to be on the page for it to work. We are hoping there is an easy fix. Or is Elementor simply incompatible with this function?

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hmm, I am not familiar with Elementor so I don't know if this is a limitation in their webdesign software or if there's a problem with the code. If you could give us a link to a page where the button isn't working or email it to us at support@e-junkie.com we can take a look to see what is happening and let you know how to fix it.

Elementor is a popular page builder plugin for Wordpress. In Elementor the "buy now" button isn't opening anything. The view cart button opens the cart but in a full window not in the handy pop-up.

On the regular Wordpress editor-built page the buttons both work fine.

I know this is not an issue with e-junkie, but hope you might be able to help me pinpoint if there is a fix for this. Otherwise we will have to rebuild all our shopping pages.

Seems like the View Cart code on that Elementor page is a bit mangled -- notice the stray </p> tag jammed into the middle of the first <script type="text/javascript"> tag:

Yes, my apologies for confusing the issue with some hasty p tags. I re-pasted the code, sans p tags. It still doesn't work. In looking at the source code from a browser it looks like some of the code is being stripped out before rendering.

Is it possible or advisable to place some the scripts in the header or footer for loading instead of in the button?

Hm, I'm still seeing that stray </p> tag in the Elementor test page you linked above.

Yes, you could try placing this portion of your View Cart code in a common header/footer area, or up in the HEAD section of the page code:

It may also help to try using the Raw HTML plugin for WordPress, as that usually works to prevent WP or other plugins from mangling your button code after you paste it in. You should be able to find and install that plugin from your WP Admin panel, and the link above explains how to use it.

(The reason you see the stubborn p tag is probably due to our caching plugin. It's gone on mine.)

My issue has been fixed by disabling the visual editor on all Elementor based pages using this plugin: Disable Visual Editor WYSIWYG.
