PayPal is apparently having some delays in sending IPNs to confirm successfully completed payments, so our system can only process affected sales (including issuing download links) as soon as PayPal can send us their IPN confirming the buyer's payment.

There seems to be a problem today as well. 3/15/10 or am I the only one and have a different problem?

No auto message confirmations are going out from ejunkie for paypal orders

PayPal has not posted anything about IPN delays lately, and we haven't heard from others experiencing a problem. If you are not finding the affected sales in your E-junkie Transaction Log, see what it says in your PayPal Account's History > IPN History for those sales. If the sales do show up in your E-junkie Transaction Log, then we definitely processed those orders and sent emails, so you'd want to look into why the emails we sent haven't arrived (e.g., check spam folders, etc.)

Thanks for that tip.

OK, this is related to a problem I wrote to your support about. I was getting an error message from paypal.

Here's a reply from support@e-junkie:

That is because you have manually enabled IPN (payment notification) in your "paypal@simplifun.com" account and configured it to transmit IPNs to http://mysterypartygames.com/ .

E-junkie's purchase buttons automatically transmit our IPN requirements to PayPal with every checkout, which would override any manual IPN settings in your PayPal account anyway.

That means in this case, you must have received a payment unrelated to your E-junkie buttons, so PayPal tried to transmit a notification of that payment to the IPN URL you have set up manually in your PayPal account, which of course failed to respond because that's not the URL of a script that can receive and process IPNs.

If you have any further questions or info to provide, please simply reply to this message to help maintain your chain of correspondence in our records.

Best regards,

The message I was getting from Paypal was:

Hello Lou Anne McKeefery,

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing:

http://mysterypartygames.com

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

Thanks,

PayPal

So I called paypal and he had me disable the IPN so now it's reading:

3/15/2010 18:38 PDT 9WB70350J31171238 Disabled 18F16703V2550961B

3/15/2010 17:45 PDT 12V91216BL211021G Disabled 3R401265GB071903S

3/15/2010 17:41 PDT 5U768525AX059932P Disabled 46061296M7126625G

3/15/2010 14:53 PDT 8BB88584N0956064V Disabled 0WX55132E6597961M

3/15/2010 12:50 PDT 49M8131965029715D Disabled 9PN64459YW321481F

What do I need to do to fix this?

I went into paypal just now and enabled IPN as it was disabled.

Current settings

Notification URL http://e-junkie.com

Message delivery Enabled

IPN settings in your PayPal account are irrelevant for payments initiated from your E-junkie purchase buttons, since our buttons transmit our IPN requirements to PayPal with every order, which would override any manual IPN settings in your PayPal account. You would only ever get IPN failure messages for payments which did not involve any E-junkie buttons at all.

We should be able to receive PayPal's IPN just fine for sellers which have never touched any IPN settings in their PayPal account; however, if you had already deliberately disabled IPN in PayPal, that might block the IPN specs provided by our purchase buttons, so you'd want to re-enable IPN and provide this IPN URL:

https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/ipnext.php

If you are selling some products without E-junkie and need PayPal to send IPN to a third-party for those non-E-junkie products, then you can provide that URL instead of ours, which will not interfere with purchases using E-junkie's buttons in any way.

Thanks, I'll change the IPN setting in Paypal and see how it goes. all orders today were with google checkout so I don't have a sense of the changes yesterday.

I do sell without ejunkie on a site but only using a paypal button, no 3rd party. I guess this will mean that you would get a copy of those orders? Will that be a problem?

I'm not sure what change paypal made but it through some problems into the system for me.

In that case, if you have our IPN URL set in PayPal, they will attempt to notify our system of those payments, and since they did not involve E-junkie in the first place, our system will ignore those particular IPNs, so you may get an IPN failure notice in that case, which you can just ignore as well.
