Can we hide cart discounts until the code is entered?

I have been playing with the cart discount codes.

I wish to reward past purchasers, offering a 50% discount to anyone who upgrades to a package of our new guides.

It appears that once the shopping cart meets the discount criteria (five items), the discount savings appear.

Is there a way to configure the cart so the discount only appears after the code has been applied?

I don't want new buyers to think they are missing out on something they should also get.

If you leave the Discount Code field blank when you set up a discount in Seller Admin, that discount will be automatically applied to any buyer's cart that meets all of the discount's other criteria -- i.e., Min. Item Qty./Total and (for Item Unit Price discounts) the presence of the selected item in the buyer's cart.

If you want buyers to enter a Discount Code to claim a discount, enter that in the Discount Code field when you add/edit the discount's settings in Seller Admin. Our cart will only show an Add Promo Code button (or Discount Code field in our classic cart) when the buyer's cart actually qualifies for some Discount Code(s) you have set up; this is what buyers would use to enter their code, so it's not possible to hide it before such a code has been entered.

Maybe I overwhelmed the system when I was playing with it or didn't refresh when I should have.

I don't mind it showing the discount code field (I haven't upgraded carts), but when I was playing with it, it was showing the amount of the discount even before the code was entered.

I will spend more time with it over the weekend and read your knowledgebase.

Bear in mind each buyer's cart persists for 24 hours after their last cart view; this includes any items in the cart, discounts applied, and tax/shipping location -- so if you were testing your cart, say, last night and resumed testing today, you'd see the cart just as you left it.

To test your cart with a clean slate, you can clear your browser cookies, or just use a Private/Incognito browser window in Firefox or Google Chrome.
